FAQ

What is stabilized wood?

Stabilized wood is natural wood that has been impregnated with resin under vacuum and pressure. This process fills the wood’s pores and weak areas, making it significantly stronger, more stable, and resistant to moisture compared to untreated wood.
Learn more about stabilization

Is stabilized wood waterproof?

Stabilized wood is highly moisture-resistant, but not 100% waterproof like plastic. It does not absorb water under normal use and is suitable for knife handles, tools, and everyday handling.

Will stabilized wood crack or warp over time?

When properly stabilized and dried, cracking and warping are extremely unlikely. However, like any wood-based material, extreme conditions (high heat, direct flame, prolonged UV exposure) should be avoided.

Are colors exactly the same as in the photos?

Each piece is unique. We photograph the exact item you receive, but slight color differences may occur due to lighting, screen settings, and the natural structure of the wood.

What tools can I use to work with stabilized wood?

Stabilized wood can be worked with standard woodworking tools:

  • bandsaws

  • belt grinders

  • drills

  • CNC machines

Sharp tools are recommended, as stabilized wood is harder than natural wood.

Does stabilized wood dull tools faster?

Yes, slightly. Resin increases hardness, so cutting edges may dull faster than with untreated wood. Carbide tools or frequent sharpening are recommended for best results.

Can stabilized wood be sanded and polished?

Absolutely. Stabilized wood sands very well and can be polished to a high gloss. It responds especially well to fine sanding (up to 1000–3000 grit) and buffing compounds.

Do knife scales need additional sealing or finishing?

No additional sealing is required. Many makers still apply wax or oil for cosmetic reasons, but stabilization already protects the material internally.

What is the difference between dyed and natural stabilized wood?

  • Natural stabilized wood retains its original color and grain.

  • Dyed stabilized wood is infused with color during stabilization, enhancing contrast and visual depth while keeping the same structural properties.

How do I choose between blocks and scales?

  • Blocks are ideal for custom shaping and full-handle carving.

  • Scales are pre-cut panels designed for full-tang knife handles, pistol grips, mod doors, and other flat-profile handle applications,

If you are unsure, blocks offer more flexibility.

Where do you ship from?

We ship from Ukraine and also offer a US-based stock for selected items to provide faster delivery for customers in the United States.

How long does shipping take?

Estimated delivery times:

  • US stock (USA): 3–7 business days

  • International shipping: typically 10–21 business days, depending on destination and customs

Do you accept returns?

Because each item is unique, returns are accepted only in case of defects or shipping damage. Please contact us within 48 hours of delivery with photos of the issue.

Can I order custom sizes or special selections?

Occasionally yes, depending on material availability and workload. Feel free to contact us with your request before placing an order.

Can stabilized wood be re-stabilized?

In most cases, no. Properly stabilized wood does not require re-stabilization. Attempting to reprocess it may lead to unpredictable results.
